“International Paneling” is an online, monthly publication providing a perspective geared towards internationally minded readers and thinkers.  Real news, commentary, essays and reviews mix with satirical and fake content resulting in a fresh take on what it means to be alive in our pandemic/post pandemic digital reality.  Illustrations, photographs and videos will also be included alongside 4-7 articles and regular columns/features.  Pen names are encouraged and payment for contributors happens through good vibrations and occasional parties with the “International Paneling” publication team.

The Mission of the “Paneling” project is to provide a platform for creative commentary on the subjective nature of the overall media and communication systems.  This means, “Be careful of what you read,” or “why am I receiving this information?” are things to always keep in mind.  Faux outrage, unsubstantiated claims and crazy opinions written in a manner that is obviously phony, yet expressed in familiar way, are welcome here.  “International Paneling” also hopes to offer perspectives from writers around the world; sort of, “Scene Reports” from our home bases.  It’s fast, tongue-in-cheek, yet conversational stuff meant to entertain and inform.

Why “Paneling?”

Paneling refers to a type of wood grain wall covering hat was very popular in the Americas in the 1970s.  Paneling was a fast way to make a living room or office inviting.  But the composite wood material held a secret: It was cheap.  It was fake.  And it was witness to all sorts of happenings within its walls.  Akin to the Chorus in Greek theater, the Paneling was a passive observer.  And that is our goal at International Paneling: to watch, experience, report and comment on the happenings of the day.  No direct judgements or hardcore opinions.  We absorb, then we share.  We are a type of paneling reacting to our world.

“International Paneling” is a continuation of the “Paneling” project started by Leo Kuelbs in Minneapolis of 1998.  “Ye Aulde Paneling” started as a broadsheet and ran until September of 2001, then resumed as “DUMBO Paneling” in Brooklyn, in print and online, from 2006 to 2010.  And now, the project has come to Berlin, Germany and plans to offer an evolved and more international perspective.
